Day 60: March 4, 2013 A Day of Sports

I woke up a little early to review some things for the exam and then we all started on our death walk to our building for class. We received some pretty bittersweet news upon arrival that our exam was moved to Thursday so that we could get an equation sheet like the other class. We were all relieved but at the same time we were all ready to get it over with and were upset that we stayed up so late for no reason. We also didn’t really want to take the time to make a crib sheet, but in the end I guess it was a good thing. With that we just had a relaxing class and were done by the usual 9:40 with the rest of our day to do whatever we wanted.

I decided to run some errands and get more minutes for my phone since they were out, and hit up the supermarket. On the way in we stopped by one of our favorite bakeries and sandwich shops only to find that it doesn’t have sandwiches like the one in Xujiahui. We then tried Dunkin’ Donuts for a breakfast sandwich but they also didn’t have anything so Bryan and I split a donut that was delicious. After making it into Auchan I came out with everything I needed and more including a pillow, hairdryer, body wash, peanut butter, bread, tennis and badminton rackets, and a volleyball. With that I was ready for a full day of sports and as soon as I got back to the dorm decided to utilize the beautiful day.

Bryan, Adam, John and I all threw on some shorts and headed over to the badminton courts for some more fun. It was only 5 yuan for an hour and the guy even gave us an extra 30 minutes for free. We played for a while until Bryan and I realized we hadn’t eaten all day and left John and Adam to grab some quick food. We decided to stop by what we thought was a sandwich shop for the third time today, but failed once again. The sign outside says they have sandwiches but they definitely do not. Since they didn’t have anything that looked too great we decided to go grab those pita pockets things that were once again amazing. They crack an egg inside this pita bread and stuff it with veggies, meat, and even cheese!!! I am obsessed with cheese and have been having serious withdrawal, so I was pretty excited. We ate those on the way back to the courts and started back in on badminton but were definitely a little slowed down by the food.

After trying all combinations of doubles teams we decided John and I should never play together and Adam and I vs John and Bryan made for a pretty good match. We couldn’t get over how nice of a day it was so we decided we would try to go play some tennis. After realizing all of the courts were full, we resorted to grabbing my volleyball and getting a group together to just hit it around by the track. We did that for a while until it turned into soccer juggling and eventually just lying down on the track and soaking up the sun.

Once the soccer fields opened up we decided to go mess around until we actually got invited to play in a game with a big group of people from our trip. We were a little skeptical at first but we decided that we would give it a try. We got to meet a couple of other students from Purdue who are in IE and some guys from OSU that were all really cool. We split up teams just by counting off and by the looks of it my team was definitely going to be the scrubs but we turned out to be pretty good. I somehow was the first person to score, but of course not without falling over in the process. I wasn’t the only one to go down, throughout the game at least 5 people were down with some sort of injury or falling over with some pretty nice raspberries, so I didn’t feel so bad.

After a couple of hours we were exhausted and decided it was finally time to call it a day and head back inside. We all took some necessary showers and then headed over for dinner. After dinner we knocked out some thermo homework and then watched That Thing You Do, which I think is pretty good. That song is going to be stuck in my head for the next week, but I can’t say that I mind since it is so catchy. After the movie we all headed to bed to rest up for class in the morning.
