On Monday’s I only have class from 8:00-9:40 so it was pretty easy to get myself out of bed knowing that I only had a few hours of class and then the rest of the day free to myself. I ate some bread and peanut butter for breakfast and then headed out by 7:30 to make sure that we could find our classroom.
After a round about route, we made it to our classroom in plenty of time and confirmed with some of the Chinese students to make sure we were in the right place. After sitting and talking for a little while, the teacher started class. He introduced himself as well as the course and then we jumped right into review of Thermodynamics I. He spoke really good English and went at a pretty good pace to where I felt like I knew what was going on, which can be a rarity in engineering classes. Near the end, we got into some examples that we kind of had to rush through but for the most part it was starting to come back to everyone even though it was a little foggy. He informed us that we will have a test a week from today, so it better start coming back pretty quickly since we only have one more class until then.
After class we decided to see what breakfast in the dinning courts was like and stopped for a quick baozi, which was good as always. John then took Bryan and I a couple of streets down to try what he calls pita pockets. They were basically pita bread stuffed with egg, veggies, and pork with this amazing sauce that kind of reminded me of a chipotle sweet and sour sauce or something. Very pleased, we walked around some shops to grab some drinks and then went back to the dorm.
I then went on a little Skype rampage and Skyped a bunch of Theta’s who were surprisingly not all at Theta so we had to do a conference call without video, and then Skyped my parents and Uncle Jack who was in town. I told everyone all about my trip and did some necessary catching up and then headed back to the dining courts for a late lunch. I’ve now noted that apparently 1:00 is about when the dinning courts shut down so we didn’t have many options but it was good enough. After lunch I was really just feeling a lazy day of nothing so basically just laid around my room all day and napped for a total of probably 3 hours.
Once I somehow managed to get out of bed, I went across the hall with Adam and both Johns (I am now going to start calling them John and Ron for clarity – John was on my Spring Break trip) and watched Django. After about an hour in, we took a break to grab dinner and then headed back to finish it. Ron and Adam left John and I to finish the movie since they had both already seen it and wanted to go to the gym. John and I were getting really into it when the movie started skipping and we couldn’t watch the last 10 minutes! We were freaking out and wasted about 30 minutes trying to get it to work and eventually gave up even though we were so on edge. We went back to our rooms and decided we would wait until they got back from the gym and see if it would work on their computers. We heard their voices coming up the stairs and both John and I stuck our head out of rooms making it obvious we couldn’t focus on anything else. We eventually got it to work on Adam’s computer and were quite satisfied after being able to finish it. From there I decided my day had been completely unproductive so I watched an online lecture and went over the thermo lecture from class and then called it a night.
