Today was a very uneventful day as far as class goes. I didn’t even eat lunch in the dining court because I have been feeling really sick so I just bought a noodle bowl and ate it in my room. The hot and kind of spicy broth actually made me feel a lot better but unfortunately that was only temporary. I once again got street food for dinner. I actually branched out this time and got a different kind of noodle and it might be my new “usual.”
After reading a ridiculous amount about Chinese history I went along with a group going to check out this Western bar called Perry’s not too far away. I was a little nervous since it was my first cab ride here but it was actually pretty simple. We just showed him a picture of the address and he let us off within two blocks of where we were trying to go. Tyler and I also got the privilege of enjoying the Yao Ming picture surrounded by hearts that was displayed on the screen in front of us.
The bar was on the third level of a building and we passed a few bars on the way up. I’m still not sure why we didn’t stop in V2, which had free drinks for girls because it was ladies night, but maybe next time. When we got upstairs, the bar had a really cool atmosphere with writing all over the walls and flags from countries all around the world. The music started out great with some Red Hot Chili Peppers and ACDC but by the end of the night was typical club music, which was fine too. They had pretty good drink deals and what looked like some amazing food that I may have to go back for. I saw a giant pancake covered in chocolate sauce, which would totally hit the spot (I miss breakfast food!). We eventually snagged a table with a guy from Brazil and another from Korea. Everyone said they were pretty interesting to talk to although I didn’t really get to talk with them much.
By the end of the night we had a crew of around 15 people, which made it a really good time. I ended up meeting a guy while I was waiting in line for the bathroom who was from Scotland. It was awesome to just listen to his accent but I guess he was nice to talk to as well. I also met guys from St. Louis and Texas who were really nice. By the end of the night we managed to carve Purdue, IU sucks, KAO, ZBT, and DG into the table with the knife I had been making fun of Adam for sharpening all day (who knew it would actually come in handy!).
A bit of Purdue in China |
When we eventually decided to head home we found another cab and of course Tyler and Adam stopped and picked up some street food on the way. A group of us went back to Adam and John’s room to hang out and it gradually dwindled until it was John, who was passed out and snoring, Adam, Tyler, and I. We were having a great time just hanging out and realized all of the sudden that it was 5 in the morning and had to wake up in a few hours for class. Makes sense considering all of my friends from home were texting me back which generally is a bad sign because that means I should have been asleep hours ago. With that, we all headed to bed to catch a few hours before a rough day to follow.
