Day 31: February 3, 2013 Squatter Rights

Since we really had nothing on our agenda for the day, we all tried to sleep in and then get up and shower and get some food for lunch. We stayed in our hotel until around noon and then walked up and down the street trying to find a place to eat. They all had the same pictures of food so we eventually just picked a place and sat down. We ordered some beef and peppers, the three delicacies of eggplant, peppers, and potatoes as well as pork, and some rice. It was fantastic other than the pork that was cut kind of like bacon and was very fatty. We sat around talking for quite some time since we really had nowhere else to go and then when we eventually wanted our check, no workers were anywhere to be found. We considered just walking out but felt bad and eventually tracked down someone.

After we paid, we really had no idea how to burn a few hours before our bus took off so we decided we would just go play cards in the lobby of our hotel. As we were sitting there we decided we could just go upstairs and sit in a room and no one would even know because they leave all of the doors open. We stealthily headed upstairs, found and empty room, and successfully squatted for a solid couple of hours. We were pretty nervous someone would walk in and find us, making it completely awkward but we were willing to risk it. We played a few games of Egyptian Rat Screw and BS, and then just laid around until it was time to make our way to the bus station. We snuck out the back stairwell with no one in sight and got out, no problem. We all couldn’t believe what had just happened but it was absolutely hilarious.

Once we got back to the bus station we loaded the bus and were pleasantly surprised by only an hour and a half ride with no stops. We made our way back to the hotel and got some street nudes on the way. It is really sad though because our favorite people aren’t out there because New Year is coming up. After dinner Bryan, Adam, John, and I made the executive decision not to go on the Spring break trip to Vietnam with four of our other friends and plan our own. We spent the rest of the night working out some logistics and getting a general plan to do Southern China including Hong Kong. It was hard to pass up Vietnam but we decided that there is just too much we haven’t seen in China to be going to another country when we could get so much in over the break. After we had a basic agenda to run by my mom for assistance, we headed to bed. Crazy day ahead with the Super Bowl!
